View from Grizedale Forest towards the snow topped Old Man of Coniston | We all awoke to a surprise this morning - beautiful blue skies and the first snow of the year on the mountains! What a great day to be out walking enjoying the crisp clear mountain air.
HRH The Prince of Wales visited Cumbria yesterday to meet with some those who were victims of the recent floods in Workington but he also found time to assist Julia Bradbury to switch on the Christmas lights in Keswick. Prince Charles said he wanted to get the message out to the world that the Lake District was open for business.
Ian Stephens, Chief Executive of Cumbria Tourism that represents over 3,000 tourism businesses in Cumbria said: "Given the recent events, it is more important than ever that people realise that, despite media reporting, Cumbria is not underwater. The Lake District and Cumbria is a vast area and there are many parts of the county that have been largely unaffected and continue to be accessible. There is no doubt that thousands of visitors could now be wondering whether to visit. The message from Cumbria is a thousand times "yes." Businesses are open. Christmas and New Year are going ahead - it will be better than ever, and we are looking forward to welcoming people here."

23/11/2009 - FLOODS ARE NO PROBLEM !
Coniston and its surroundings were lucky to escape the worst effects of this weekends heavy rain.
Despite Coniston Water being at an all time high for 36hours, the water receded rapidly. Luckily most of our cottages are on higher ground, and very few were damaged.
Our unmade road to Coppermines Valley was damaged, but a few hours work with Phil and the digger soon put it right !
Most of The Lake District is now fully accessible, the most damage being confined mainly to north around Cockermouth and Workington.
All road bridges in the Coniston area have been checked and declared safe.
So take advantage of our seasonal offers and come and see us !!
